BCAA [ BRANCHED CHAIN AMINO ACIDS ]

 BCAA

Branched Chain Amino Acid

Branched Cham Amino acids refers to the branched chain chemical structure of Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, Our body obtains these essential nutrients from proteins found in meat, dairy products, poultry, nuts, pulses and legumes.

Leucine is the star amino amongst the three amino acid. Leucine, isoleucine and valine are present in the ratio of 2:1:1, respectively.

Leucine is a precursor for muscle protein synthesis. It plays a role as a regulator pf intracellular signaling pathways that are involved in the process of protein synthesis.

Benefits

BCAA helps to increases muscle growth

It decreases the length and seventy of DOMS Delayed Onset of Muscle Sorenesst. Several studies have shown that BCAA decreases muscle breakdown during exercise

BCAA decreases the level of Creatine Kinase which is an indicator of muscle damage.

BCAA may be useful in decreasing exercise induced fatigue. The muscles use BCAA

An abundant availability of all essential amino acids is a requisite for a significant stimulation of muscle protein synthesis.

DOMS (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness) - Feeling of soreness which develops after 12-24 hours after workout and can last up to 72 hours.

Creatine Kinase It is an enzyme found-d in the heart, the brain, the skeletal muscles and other tissues. Creatine Kinase catalyses the conversion of creatine and uses Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) to create Phosphocreatine (CP) and Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP).

  • BCAA may be useful in decreasing exercise induced fatigue. The muscles use BCAA during exercise, which causes its level to decrease in the blood. When the levels of BCAA decreases, the level of essential amino acid Tryptophan increases in the brain. In our brain, Tryptophan is converted into serotonin a brain chemical that is thought to contribute to the development of fatigue during exercise

BCAA helps to prevent muscle wasting. Muscle wasting is a weakening or shrinking of muscles. It occurs when protein breakdown exceeds protein synthesis.

Side Effects

Branched chain amino acids are considered to be safe for the general population. However, side effects may include nausea, pain and headache.

  • Supplements of BCAA should be taken cautiously during and after surger+y, pregnant, lactating and if alcoholic. BCAA can interact with Diabetes medications

  • Parkinson's medications, Corticosteroids, Thyroid hormone. Proglycem (diazoxide).

Dosing

BCAA supplements can be consumed before, during and after exercise. It is advised to take BCAA 30 minutes prior workout and within 45-60 minutes post workout. The dosage can vary according to your weight For example, a man weighing 75 kilos can take up to 15 grams of BCAA.

(2 grams per kg of bodyweight)
