Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid produced from hydroxylation of another amino acid called phenylalanine (in liver). The word "tyrosine" is derived from the Greek word ryrós, meaning cheese. It win first discovered in 1846 by German chenust Justus von Liebig in the casem protein from cheese

Tyrosine is found in casein protein, milk and milk products (like cheese). Tyrosine is also present in non-dairy foods that are aged, including some types of meats and red wine. It is also found in chicken, turkey, fish and most other high-protein foods

Role of Tyrosine

Tyrosine acts as a precursor to neurotransmitters and hormones such as:

  • Dopamine, Adrenaline and noradrenaline, Thyroid hormones 13 and 14 and Melanin.
Increasing these neurotransunutters through supplementation of tyrosine may help improve memory and performance in stressful situations

Supplementing with tyrosine can reverse mental decline and improve cognition in short-term, stressful or mentally demanding situations Tyrosine has also been said to help with depression

Side Effects of Tyrusine
Tyrosme can be supplemented safely at a dose of 150 mg per kg of body weight per day. Tyrosine is recognized as sale (GRAS) by the Food and Drug up to three months. Tyrosine is safe for the majority of people. However, it may interact with certam medications.

Tyrosine is commonly taken in doses of 500-2,000 mg 30-60 minutes before exercise
