CONJUGATED LINOLEIC ACID


Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) are isomers of linoleic acid (that is Omega-6 fatty acid) found mostly in meat and dairy products. There are in total 28 different isomers of CLA. For fat loss, only 2 forms - T-10 and T-11 CLA are heavily researched.

Technically, CLAs are naturally occurring trans-fat but are better than the industrial trans-fat. The main dietary sources of CLA are the meat and milk of ruminants, such as cows, goats and sheep. Supplements are made by chemically altering linoleic acid found in vegetable oils.

Supposed benefits

  • CLA claims to help people lose fat, maintain weight loss, retain lean muscle mass, and control type 2 diabetes.
  • Also, CLA may help to fight cancers due to its antioxidant properties.
  • CLA helps to lower LDL. cholesterol
  • CLA can cause increased accumulation of fat in your liver

Side Effects

  • CLA causes inflammation
  • CLA lowers HDL cholesterol levels in the blood
  • CLA supplements may cause upset stomach, nausea, diarrhoea, and fatigue.
  • CLA supplementation can worsen insulin resistance. It can worsen the symptoms of metabolic syndrome and type-2-diabetes, in some individuals.
  • CLA can increase oxidative stress in the body.
  • Supplementation of CLA has given successful results in lab rats. However, effect of CLA for fat loss, in humans, has been small and unreliable.

Dosage: CLA can be dosed safely up to 3-6 grams.
